On a beautiful July weekend, I had the exciting opportunity to perform at the 35th annual Sioux River Folk Festival held at Newton Hills State Park in Canton, South Dakota. The event is organized by the “South Dakota Friends of Traditional Music” and is a fantastic three days of music from popular area and regional bands. We were also excited that we were able to bring along Haruna Kuwayama, the foreign exchange student who is staying with us for several weeks.
Something that we especially loved about this festival is the extra focus on the music. Audience members brought lawn chairs and blankets, and were encouraged to keep talking to a minimum during the performances. It was all a very fun and friendly atmosphere with a great natural setting, food, and of course, excellent tunes!
