It’s been a steady stream of classes and live events this semester, and things seem to be moving smoothly along as we all anxiously anticipate some warmer weather… whenever it may get here. Our live sound events during the semester have included several comedians and the country band “Scarletta” (shown sound checking above) sponsored by the Student Activities Board, A Zumba night, and a “Mic Slam” open mic night.
In the midst of all that’s been happening, we managed to get away for a weekend to see one of our all-time favorite musicians, Jason Isbell in Minneapolis. It was a fantastic concert! He played many of his well-known songs, including some of his hits from his days with the Drive-By Truckers. One of the best moments was a gorgeous cover of the song “Mutineer” (originally by Warren Zevon) that he sang with his lovely and talented wife, Amanda Shiers. (great photo by Cassie)
Lastly, we were paid a visit from college friend Jane Ryder, who presented at the campus gallery here at DSU. Her exhibition was called “Iowa Dirt” and featured the plants, animals, and landscapes of Iowa, but from a bold and unique perspective. We really enjoyed the show and visiting with Jane and her boyfriend Kyle. Keeping busy during these long, cold months!
