It’s been a busy month of classes (our Recording Sessions class pictured above) and events, including live concerts on campus from Avian and Phantom Balance, a performance at Mochavino, the English Club Poetry Slam, and the South Dakota College Art Association conference.
The DSU Live students worked hard promoting and setting up our live events, which included a visit from Avian for a third straight year, with acoustic opener, “Every Breath”! The bands sounded fantastic, and as an extra learning opportunity, they brought along their own live Pro Tools rig. Here’s a short video I put together from the show, including a condensed 5-hour timelapse, courtesy of student and photographer Cody Welu:
We ended the month in style, with a Halloween Doubleheader featuring the Sioux Falls hip-hop group, Phantom Balance. The event combined efforts from DSU Live, The Madison Area Arts Council, the Student Activities Board, and KDSU DJs. The students loved the group, and we definitely want to have them back very soon.
Next week, we are looking forward to yet another event, a live concert with the duo, Baby Mountain, consisting of artist and musician Tim Lowly and Karima Walker. I am thrilled that they have asked me to play ambient electric guitar on several songs. It will be yet another fun concert to add to the list of exciting events this semester:
